A note from the CEO and President of Trinity Garage Doors & Openers about the dangers of do-it-yourself garage door repair

do-it-yourself gone wrong

Trinity Garage Doors & Openers wants to make homeowners aware of the dangers of an improperly maintained garage door.

The employees and staff want to make every effort to let the general public know that a moving garage door is the largest moving object in their home. Oftentimes it is taken for granted until it breaks.

“Many homeowners think that repairing a garage door or a garage door opener is simple and not that difficult to do.”, says Mace McGill, President and CEO of Trinity Garage Doors & Openers, Inc. “They are not aware of the risk involved for most homeowners who tackle repairing their garage door. Just last week, we had a customer who had cut off his thumb while attempting to replace his garage door springs himself. We are not quite sure how or why he was placing his thumb between the cable and the cable drum. The springs slipped, and there was a violent release of the spring tension onto the torsion assembly which caused the garage door cable to suddenly tighten, and it sliced through his thumb. He spent approximately $10,000.00 on the surgery to have his thumb sewn back on. Additionally, he incurred the cost of having us come to his home and correct the repair to the garage door, not to mention the cost of ongoing doctors visits and therapy.”

Homeowners should only allow their garage door or garage door opener to be worked on by trained technicians who are employed by reputable companies. Routine service and maintainence are a few dollars spent now that can save big dollars in the future.
